Tinkering with Technology
Below is the outline for a professional development I did for a small group of teachers around Tinkering with Technology. The purpose of our time together was to reflect on, and evaluate, our current uses and views of technology as a tool for learning. A secondary purpose of our meeting was to inspire incremental changes to the use of technology. During our time together we also covered numerous "tinkers" (incremental changes to use of technology to save time) within the google doc platform. On the last page of the outline you will find a video library of tools, or "tinkers," for google docs that I have created.
G Suite Professional Development
At the conclusion of the 2019-20 school year I was approached by our District Curriculum Specialist about hosting three one-hour professional developments. I was given the freedom to use those three hours as I saw fit, as long as it supported teachers with the transition to distance learning. After a few phone calls with my colleagues with various technological expertise and from various departments, I determined that an overview of Google Suite and workflow efficiency was what staff our staff was interested in. I recruited fellow educator Mrs. Breazeale to present with me, and we began brainstorming. Ultimately, we created the agenda below (a hyperdoc containing both self-created and public tutorials) in which I have highlighted my individual contributions to the professional development sessions. Additionally, the last session was originally, and intentionally, left unscheduled to allow for flexibility to comply with staff requests and feedback. This ultimately resulted in a desire to see an overview of Google Classroom which led me to recruit an additional staff member, Mrs. Rios, into our presentation.
